Clinton Criticism Reignites Stagnant Gabbard Campaign
Hillary Clinton’s criticism has inadvertently revived the renegade Democrat’s campaign for President.
In a podcast interview released last week, former Secretary of State and Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton had some harsh words for rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a congresswoman from Hawaii’s 2nd district who is currently seeking the democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential election.
In the interview, Clinton referred to an unnamed, female democratic candidate as a “Russian asset” that Republicans were “grooming” to run as a third-party candidate in an attempt to split the liberal vote and help them secure the 2020 election. Clinton also called on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to intervene, saying, “They should do what they did for me in 2016; Bernie Sanders her ass.”
However, Clinton’s comments appear to have backfired, as reporting of the criticism has lead to Gabbard’s name dominating the news cycle this week, re-energising a campaign that seemed destined to fail. Polls conducted in late September reported Gabbard’s support was at just 1%.
Gabbard, who many mistook for a CNN reporter in the last debate, tweeted that she suspected Hillary Clinton had been trying to sabotage her campaign since it began, calling the former first lady, “the queen of warmongers”.
Meanwhile, long-time Gabbard ally, Bashar al-Assad, The President of Syria, expressed his support by tweeting, “#Tulsi2020”.
Clinton, who remains firm in the belief she lost the 2016 election because of Russian interference and not because of a widespread perception that she and her campaign were elitist and out of touch, has been unapologetic about her comments.
Following the backlash, several other nominees have reportedly requested criticism from Clinton. A Clinton spokesperson said that all requests for criticism are being considered, especially from the Sanders campaign.
